Tariffs Dim CEO Confidence - July, 2018
The economic optimism of small-business CEOs continues to decline, according to the latest results from the Wall Street Journal/Vistage Small Business CEO Survey. The CEO Confidence Index measured 108.2 in the July 2018 survey, compared to 110.8 one month ago and 110.0 one year ago. This is well below the peak of 120.5 recorded in January and the lowest level since the 2016 presidential election.
The confidence of CEOs from small and midsize businesses (SMBs) has slipped in the past quarter but remains high, according to new data from Vistage.
The Vistage CEO Confidence Index, calculated as part of Vistage’s quarterly survey of SMB CEOs, measured 105.8 in Q1 2018. By comparison, the index was 110.3 last quarter (Q4 2017) and 106.8 one year ago (Q1 2017). The Q1 2018 survey had 1,712 respondents.
Optimism Reaches Highest Level in 13 Years - Q4, 2017
In Q4 2017, the Vistage CEO Confidence Index jumped to 110.3, the highest number recorded since 2004. By comparison, the index measured 103.0, 103.1 and 106.9 in the previous three quarters.
